Courier Fraud

Alert message sent 11/11/2021 19:26:00

Information sent on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police

Devon and Cornwall Police would like to make the public aware that we have seen an increase in “Courier” Frauds over the last week or so. Incidents include the following:

- a burglary of an elderly lady where a courier has attended the address and taken bank card and withdrawn money

- contact from fraudsters purporting to be Police, attempting to convince the victim to hand over money.

According to national statistics published in a 2020 review into the effectiveness of the UK reporting centre, Action Fraud, fraud now accounts for as much as one in three of every crime allegation.

You are more likely to be a victim of a fraud than any other type of crime.

Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Never hand over money at the doorstep.
