Important last chance to remain neighbourhood watch scheme

Alert message sent 21/10/2021 12:27:00

Information sent on behalf of Neighbourhood Watch

Later this year there is a new version of the Neighbourhood Alert messaging system coming online and the Neighbourhood Watch Network wants to ensure that all Neighbourhood Watch schemes have been verified and registered with their local force association (DaCCWA for Devon and Cornwall) before being included and searchable through the ourwatch and Alert databases. Sadly, over the years, a number of schemes have been listed without understanding the need for local verification so this is the reason for the mass tidy-up now.
In case you are unaware, by being verified and registered locally, schemes benefit in a number of ways. Most importantly, they are covered by Public Liability insurance and their communities are safe in the knowledge that their schemes are fully recognised and supported by their local police force. Their co-ordinators can also benefit from local support and advice, as well as have access to free training and crime prevention merchandise opportunities via DaCCWA (Devon and Cornwall Community Watch Association) which is the umbrella organisation for all watches in Devon and Cornwall.
We realise that this is an unexpected ask, and that a number of you have been running very successful schemes for a good while now. However, together we should be able complete the process quickly and easily. If you would like to get your scheme verified and registered as per the Neighbourhood Watch Network’s request, please can you:
Complete both pages of the attached Application Form and return it to us to process at our end.
If there are no issues with your application, we will then verify your scheme on the Alert database.
When the new Alert site is launched, please check that your scheme is also mapped properly. NB we are waiting to hear when this is due to happen and we will email you to let you know when you will be able to do this.
If you would prefer to leave your scheme unverified and not registered with DaCCWA, your scheme will not be recognised by Devon and Cornwall Police and won’t be included on the ourwatch website or the Alert messaging database.
If you have any questions, do get back in touch.
With Best Wishes
