Serious Fire Bideford High Street - North Devon

Emergency services remain at the scene of a fire on the High Street in Bideford.

Police were contacted at around 5:40am requesting assistance for road closures and to help with evacuating people; currently no casualties have been reported.

The focus now is on making the site safe and facilitating access for effected business owners and members of the public.

We would urge the public and motorists to continue to avoid the area which is still busy with emergency service personnel.

Closures will remain in place and police await instruction from the Fire Investigator in relation to if this is a suspicious incident that requires a police investigation.

We suggest that members of the public who wish to access services or businesses within the affected area of the lower High Street contact the relevant companies via phone or email in the first instance.

All agencies involved would like to thank the public for their patience during this ongoing incident and it’s hoped access and business can be returned to normal as soon as the area is safe for all.

In the meantime, this scene remains in the control of the Fire Service.

Torridge Sector Inspector Ewan Seear
