Vehicles used in Crime

The local police do not enforce routine parking matters, but we do respond to local concerns about road safety.  Our officers were checking for dangerous parking in Sampford Peverell this morning (12/06/2025), when an un-taxed vehicle was located and seized. Untaxed and unregistered vehicles are often used in crime and seizing them on behalf of partners in the DVLA disrupts criminality in our communities.  The recovery caused a short, unavoidable delay to road users in Lower Town at around 12:00 hours.  The police can remove any vehicle from the highway if a significant obstruction is being caused or if the vehicle has been untaxed for more-than 61 days.

If you'd like to report a suspicious vehicle where you live please contact 101 so that your local policing team can look-into it.

Mid Devon District Council can consider removing any abandoned vehicle from the highway, if it is untaxed, in a dangerous condition and/or if the registered keeper is not local.
