Neighbourhood Team speed checks

On Monday 12th May 2025 between 3.30pm two police officers from one of the response teams at St Austell completed speed checks on the 20 mph section of Trezaise Road, Roche. During this time many vehicles passed through the check at the correct speed. Two vehicles were detected as exceeding the speed limit with the drivers were stopped and passed words of advice at the roadside.

Previous posts from the Neighbourhood Team about speed checks completed at other locations generated a negative and mixed response criticising whether these were a good use of police time. The officers involved in these checks completed it during some downtime in their shift at a time when children from the nearby primary school would have been walking home. The location of their check was in adjacent to the village play area. The purpose of their check was to educate any drivers detected as exceeding the speed to the risks posed to pedestrians and other road users.
