Calling for your assistance!

Calling all farmers, dog owners, walkers, land owners, livestock owners, locals, tourists or anyone else!…..Would you like to do your bit to raise awareness of the importance of protecting livestock from dogs?

We would love to see your photos on Facebook of you and your dog enjoying the countryside in a responsible manner during our Dogs Worrying Livestock Awareness week. See below for one of the Rural Affairs Team doggies doing his bit to raise awareness.

If you don't have a dog- don't worry, any nice pictures of the countryside will be great, using the hashtags below.

Upload your photos on Facebook using #TakeTheLeadDevon and #TakeTheLeadCornwall to show your support to protecting the countryside, and don't forget to tag us on Facebook @DCPOLICERURAL

Dogs worrying livestock costs thousands to farmers across Devon and Cornwall and can have a long lasting impact.

Keeping your dog under close control and on a lead will ensure the protection of livestock in the countryside and could prevent legal action against the dog owner, or even prosecution.

For more information about the protection of Livestock visit the legislation page here- Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953

The National Sheep Assosiation also produce guidance for dogs around livestock which can be found here- How to enjoy your dog walks - advice on avoiding a sheep worrying incident | Sheep Worrying Case Study | National Sheep Association

Thanks for your support!
