Five e-bicycles were seized in Exeter city centre today because they were found to be classed as motor vehicles and were therefore subject to the Road Traffic Act.

Legal electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPC) have a small motor which helps the cyclist to move the pedals and have a 15.5mph (assisted) speed limit. The motor cannot exceed 250W.
