Bogus cold caller - HAYLE

Police have received a report of a bogus cold caller calling at an address in Hayle on Wednesday 22nd January, 2025. Two males purported to be calling to conduct a ‘drain survey’ but they failed to identify the company or their details when asked to do so. The white van they drove in had no company logo or information on it.

Please be vigilant and wary of all cold callers, all employees of these companies must identify themselves correctly, if unsure contact the company to verify the name and credentials before allowing them into your home.

If in doubt, keep them out. Ask them to make an appointment or come back later when someone else is around. Genuine callers won’t mind. If you are suspicious, report the incident to the police.

Remember:

You don’t have to let anyone into your home.

Do not open the door if you are uncomfortable doing so. A door chain allows you to open the door enough for you to see who is calling before shutting the door if necessary.

Check other doors and windows are locked before answering the door so no one else can sneak in.

Ask for ID through the letterbox. Keep the door locked until you’re happy to let them in.

You may find it handy to keep a list of useful telephone numbers by the phone so that you know exactly where genuine company numbers are if needed.

Utility services may operate a password system, contact your provider to find out more.

Have you seen anything suspicious or has a bogus trader been in your area? Tell us about it by reporting it to us:
