Officers from Rural East Devon and Mid Devon deployed in Exmouth on Saturday 27th of April, to show a concerted policing presence in Exmouth, with locally based officers. We wanted to further re-assure the public, after Exmouth Neighbourhood officers successfully made arrests, following isolated youth disorder two weeks ago.

The Neighbourhood Inspectors, across the Local Policing Area, are committed to this new way of working, which allows us to rapidly move resources to the areas where we want to achieve the most. This means that we can focus our resources in a main effort to challenge whatever vexes the public most. The aim of the deployment on Saturday was to engage with the public, re-assure retailers and address any criminality or antisocial behaviour which was encountered. A prolific offender was arrested for shoplifting and public order offences. He was charged for both and is summonsed for other shoplifting offences. Another suspect was arrested for shoplifting offences. He was charged with three shoplifting offences, a theft of a pensioners purse, a fraud and handling stolen goods. He was held overnight in police custody and presented to the Court the next morning.

Our PCSO team sought feedback from local businesses and locations. The feedback was positive and confirmed that the presence of our teams, on the streets, being amongst our communities, is strengthening, reassuring and a positive use of our resources.
